Learning
I'm sitting here thinking I have nothing to say today. I know! Hard to believe! As I sit in bed with my coffee, I look up and Mikael's picture is right in front of me on the bookcase. He looks so happy! And handsome! And alive! His smile is so beautiful. So maybe today is a day for memories and I guess I have something to say after all! I still find myself waiting for him to walk into the house; with his Tupperware containers full of noodles! I wait to hear his laugh exploding out of him. A laugh that just makes everyone else want to laugh too. And I wish for his hug and to hear his voice calling me momma.
When I was working, Mikael would frequently stop by my office to visit. We had so many deep conversations about our spiritual growth and he shared so openly about what he was learning about himself. His willingness to share with such vulnerability taught me the value of doing so. His ability to laugh at himself was a breath of fresh air.
As parents, we focus on what we hope to teach our children and how we can help them grow and become responsible, caring, loving people. And this is certainly important and part of our task as parents. But, let's never let ourselves forget what we can learn from our kids. I have learned so much from both of my sons and I'm thankful for them every day.
