The Joy Worksheet

We possess an inherent sense of joy in the knowledge of our salvation. In addition, God continues to provide us with numerous opportunities to experience joy as a means of sustaining us during periods of heartbreak and grief. This three-day worksheet serves as a tool to assist you in identifying and describing instances of joy (large and small) and the significance they hold for you. Print it off and record three moments each day; it does not need to be lengthy. At the end of three days, review your experience with joy as a source of strength. If you would prefer to use your own journal as opposed to the work sheet, by all means!

The aim of this exercise is twofold. We want to initiate a practice of deliberately looking for those instances of joy. By keeping track of them, we are then able to look back and gain insight into how these moments are used by the Lord to provide for our various needs. Thus the importance of writing it all down! 😀

Example

Moment of Joy

I was distraught as I went for my morning walk. My attention was brought to the singing of the birds in the trees along the road. Their song brought me a sense of wonder.

Significance to Me

The purity of the birdsong brought me back to myself. Although I still felt sadness, I was reminded me that there was a beautiful world around me I wanted to be part of.
