Take Backs
For a number of months now, I have had such a poetry writer's block. Poems are one of my favourite forms of writing; a method of creating an image, feeling, thought process, understanding or idea in the reader's mind. And yet, I have not been able to put the words together lately. As though the writing has dried up in my head.
A couple of days ago while I was out for a walk, this poem trickled into my brain. Seemingly out of nowhere. Once again, walking inspires my creativity. There is something about putting one foot in front of the other, contemplating a blue sky that generates and solidifies ideas. I had to write it down as soon as I got home so I wouldn't forget it! Thought I'd share it with you all today.
Take Backs
The clamour of children's voices
from the playground,
ringing across the open space.
Assembling their teams,
making their rules.
"No take backs!"
Unknowing the wisdom of their words
imparted on afternoon breezes.
Words of truth.
The futility of longing for do overs,
for I wish I had and
I wish I hadn't.
The reason to seek
God's hand to form decisions.
The purpose of God's grace.
And why we forgive each other
and ourselves.
