Worship

I’m currently working on a fourth book, which will be a follow up to Tattered Hearts and Hopeful Souls. I’m still working on the title but this is a book sharing what I’ve been learning about the necessary work we must do in order to carry our grief in God’s light. Since it’s Palm Sunday, I thought I’d share with you an excerpt from the chapter on “Worship, Prayer and God’s Word”.

Worship can be rather a struggle when experiencing loss and suffering of any kind. It's not uncommon to feel a lack of desire to express praise and gratitude, either individually or collectively. However, failing to do so robs us of the very thing we are in need of - alignment and nearness to God.

God does not need our worship. His command to us isn't based on some selfish, narcissistic need to be praised and propped up on a regular basis. We have been instructed to worship God because we need what is gained when we do. Worship brings us into alignment with God's will for us and draws us close to him. God longs to be in relationship with us and our expressions of worship bring us into the peace of that relationship.

Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations,

ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;

bring an offering and come before him.

Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

  Tremble before him, all the earth!

  The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.

  1 Chronicles 16: 28-30
